June 7th to10th, 2012
All the St. John’s boys, as well as the staff from St. Johns, and the on property school were unanimous in agreement – their Spring camping trip was a wonderful event. The food was delicious and plentiful, the activities, which included hiking, the Bombardio dodge ball game, swimming in the pond, searching for pond and woodland wildlife,
visiting and cuddling the cuddly German Shepherd puppies at the New Skete monastery, competing to complete their team’s scavenger hunt list, shooting hoops, playing cards and Frisbee, strumming a guitar or ukulele, gathering around the Saturday evening campfire, pillow fighting in the yurt – all were winners!
The St. John’s staff members: Brother Tom Trager, Ms. Alissa Deakin, Mr. Ciro Timmons and staff from the on property school; Ms. Mary Keane, Ms. Mary O’Connell, and Mr. Kevin Papa worked together to design a daily program that had something for everyone.
Mr. Wally Rodier and his wife Jane volunteered once again and added much to the program. Jane worked tirelessly in the kitchen to make sure everyone left the meals smiling and Wally was an integral part of the activities, as he has been for years.
The residents who attended included; Joel Johnson, Robert Ham, Dave Rodriguez, Jose Medina, Desmond Mazzone, Juan Restrepo, Basharue Colemen, Michael Jordan, Mitchell Jordan, Michael Bennett, Jason Abernathy, Dolores Hernandez, Adan Romero, Philip Pine, Rashamel Ray, & Unique Harris.
Though they were occupied in their bakery, Scott and Lisa Carrino, Pompanuck’s overseers, were able to spend some time with us, and at the final evening campfire expressed the hope that their schedules might permit more participation in the future.
All are looking forward to the next Pompanuck adventure. Who knows? Maybe this fall will find us there again.
